About
Most people don’t realize this but the original pledge written in 1892 by Baptist minister and educator Francis Bellamy was, “I pledge allegiance to my flag and the republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
Then in 1954, Congress changed it to include “under God” under the urging of the organization Knights of Columbus and a few others.
Clearly a violation of the Separation of Church and State. The 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco claimed “The Pledge of Allegiance serves to unite our vast nation through the proud recitation of some of the ideals upon which our republic was founded and for which we continue to strive: one Nation under God.”
Honestly, if it was really an important part of our ideals, one would think the Baptist minister who wrote it would have included or referenced god in the original.
